Commissions

Opus Stained Glass welcomes enquiries for new commissions for stained glass or leaded light windows & door panels for Private Houses and Churches, either working from the client’s own design or by one of our experienced designers producing a small colour sketch for approval after in-depth discussion with the client.

We will often arrange to pay a visit to look at the location of where the proposed stained glass panel, is to be fitted as the design and colours of the glass to be used can be influenced by factors such as lighting, the style of decoration or even the client’s hobbies or interests.

We welcome enquiries for all styles of new decorative stained glass door panels or leaded light windows, but would normally recommend that sympathetic consideration is given to the age of the property (whether new build, post-war, thirties, Victorian or older).

Unfortunately, during the 1950s and 1960s, many period properties were stripped of their decorative stained glass, substituting clear glass instead in an effort to “modernise” a property, whereas owners of period properties are now keen to restore as many of the original features as possible as part of any restoration project.

However at all times the client’s own ideas and suggestions regarding style remain our primary consideration.

For new Church Commissions, the governing body of the Church will normally be involved in any decision-making process regarding approval of subject-matter.  For instance it is now considered inappropriate for any proposed new stained glass windows to reflect a style of bygone years – they need to have a “modern” look, but still be sympathetic to any stained glass already housed within the Church.
